Made with Love. Made in Cumbria.
Showcasing local artists, manufacturers, makers and producers, Made in Cumbria is a celebration of the county of Cumbria and all that is created here. Home to not one, but two, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Cumbria is a rural county with its roots deeply entrenched in agriculture, trade and the great outdoors. As a backdrop for many of our artisans, the stunning Lake District inspires us, motivates us and encourages us to produce crafts from her natural materials, food and drink from her plentiful resources and bring visitors to share her beauty.
With almost 200 miles of breathtaking coastline, hundreds of mountains and a rich history of industry and commerce, it is no wonder there are so many wonderful treasures to experience here. From handmade art and crafts to health products and food and drink, Cumbria is a vibrant and innovative county that attracts people from far and wide who come to visit, work and live here.
Not only does the Cumbrian coast provide opportunities for a thriving maritime industry, the west coast of Cumbria is at the cutting edge of modern technologies, whilst Hadrian’s Wall teaches about our county’s traditions and ancient history. The English Lakes provides the natural ingredients for many makers and producers here and our extraordinary surroundings offer outdoor enthusiasts with one of nature’s most incredible playgrounds.
Made in Cumbria brings together all the creative industries found in Cumbria and the Lake District to one central hub where you can find out more about the exciting businesses that call here home. Explore traditional Cumbrian gifts, mouth-watering food and drink, all natural health products, talented artists and award-winning designers. By visiting Made in Cumbria, you’re helping to support our creative heritage and recognising the unique and special talents of the many businesses that Cumbria boasts.
This Month’s Featured Business
Grasmere Gingerbread® is unique! A spicy-sweet cross between a biscuit and cake, it was invented in 1854 by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson in her 1630 Church Cottage home from where she sold aromatic slices to villagers and visitors from a tree stump outside her front door.
Today, it is still ONLY made and sold here; baked fresh every day to Sarah’s original trademarked secret recipe and hand-wrapped in her distinctive original parchment paper. Her former home is now The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop and its timeless ambiance attracts tourists from all over the world.
